The tumor is removed with the help of ultrasound imaging and under the supervision of the surgeon. In addition, radio frequency treatments can be used before surgery.

Biliary tract surgery and cholecystectomy

The gallbladder is located at the bottom and is connected to the liver because the gallbladder is the organ responsible for storing bile produced by the liver, especially when fatty foods move from the stomach to the duodenum, it spills bile stored in the intestine.

The secretion of bile helps to digest the food we eat with pancreatic secretions, as various gallbladder diseases occur, and stones are the most widespread among patients.

While gallstones usually remain silent for a long time without signs or symptoms, upper abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and indigestion after eating fatty foods may cause discomfort such as indigestion and bloating.

Gallstones can be identified during gallbladder inflammation or when they settle in the main bile duct.

The symptoms of gallstones are as follows:

  • Pain
  • Fever
  • Chills
  •  Upper right abdominal seizures foreshadow gallbladder inflammation.

Gallstones can transfer jaundice or pancreatitis to the main bile duct, in which case jaundice can be seen in patients such as darkening urine color.

Currently, laparoscopic gallbladder surgery is performed for patients with these symptoms.

The most common liver – gallbladder – pancreas diseases:

  • Liver cancer
  • Cirrhosis of the liver
  • Hemangioma
  • Benign tumors
  • Nodal focal hypertrophy
  • Liver abscesses
  • Bile stones
  • Cholangiocarcinomas
  • Gallbladder cancer
  • Cystic tumors of the liver
  • Pancreatic cancer
  • Acute pancreatitis
  • Pancreatic cancer
  • Malignant liver tumors
  • Metastatic liver tumors (spread of malignant liver tumors)
  • Benign liver tumors
  • Hydride liver cyst (a common parasitic disease)
  • Pancreatic tumors
  • Malignant tumors of the pancreas
  • Benign tumors of the pancreas
  • Chronic acute pancreatitis and its impairments
  • Gallstones of the gallbladder
  • Complicated gallstones
  • Bile stones
  • Tumors of the biliary tract
  • Injuries of the biliary tract

Rapid diagnosis and direct treatment

Difficulties in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the liver, pancreas, and biliary tract, as well as delays in diagnosis or prolonged hospitalization of the patient, which unfortunately leads to the loss of the possibility of surgical treatment, which leads to the death of the patient.

Timely intervention is required to prevent the risk of these diseases. “An accurate and effective treatment plan requires the presence of a medical team and multidisciplinary teamwork for timely diagnosis and treatment.

The most important direct interventions for treatment include:

  • Endoscopic procedure in case of emergency
  • Percutaneous cholangiography
  • Vascular interventions for the liver, pancreas, and biliary tract

Doctors-members of the Center for surgery of the liver, biliary tract, pancreas, gastrointestinal tract, and intestines:

Turkey Healthcare Group’s Gastrointestinal and Hepatic Center includes a gallbladder, liver and pancreatic endoscope that diagnoses diseases of the pancreas, bile duct and liver, and is treated through endoscopy procedures, which diagnose diseases of the gallbladder and pancreatic channels.

Treated with a special endoscopy device (gallbladder, pancreatic and liver endoscopy). Once the bile channels are reached, a stent (plastic or metal catheter) can be placed during endoscopy, if necessary, to remove stones from the bile channels.
After reaching the bile ducts, if necessary, during the endoscopy a pillar (plastic or metal catheter) can be placed to remove the stones in the bile duct.

Liver and Gastrointestinal diseases

Liver biopsy

Performing a liver biopsy is one of the most effective and important methods for diagnosing liver diseases because many liver diseases are assessed by biopsy and biopsy provides important information for doctors to understand the stage of the disease and find out the cause of the infection Disease.

Although this operation seems very difficult, in general it was quite simple and did not cause any complications.

The operation is performed under ultrasound. The internist anesthetizes the skin with medications before inserting the needle into the liver, puts it under ultrasound control, and removes a small piece.

The most serious complication that occurs during the operation is bleeding, some patients may feel pain within a few hours after removing the patch, but this is usually temporary.

Diseases require liver biopsies

  • Chronic hepatitis B infection
  • Chronic hepatitis infection
  • Long-term use of alcohol
  • Cases of autoimmune hepatitis
  • Primary biliary cirrhosis and primary sclerosing cholangitis
  • Fatty liver
  • Metabolic diseases (Wilson and hemochromatosis)
  • Malfunctions or problems with unknown and unexplained liver enzyme assays
  • After a biopsy, the patient is usually observed for 4-5 hours. Blood pressure is monitored, pulse is monitored. Patients with good general condition can be sent home.

Liver transplant center

What is the liver transplant process?

Liver transplantation is the only and primary treatment for acute liver failure, cirrhosis, liver tumors, liver failure and other liver problems.

Liver transplant is performed only from a live donor because this type of treatment is the last step in the patient’s life-saving surgery.

Liver transplant is one of the most life-saving surgeries in the world for patients with liver failure.

Every day, many people around the world could live with liver transplantation and return to active normalcy.

Liver transplant is an attempt to save the patient’s life by replacing a live liver lobe from a donor in a patient with one of the causes of liver disease.

The liver is the only organ in the body capable of self-regenerating and ensuring its vital functions.

As the liver grows its normal size in a short time, large parts of the liver (60-70% of the total liver) can be donated safely by donors and people with liver tumors and other liver diseases.

For this reason, liver transplantation is the safest operation for both the donor and the patient. Liver transplantation is a risky process due to the general condition of patients and the size of the operation.

This risk may increase with the severity of the disease requiring liver transplantation. Patients are usually exhausted in every way, and many are in very bad condition.

However, without surgery, someone can lose their lives. Liver transplant gives these patients hope for a new life.

If the transplant process is done for patients without deterioration of their health, the risk of surgery decreases and their lifespan becomes longer, especially if it is late on the transplant, so the patient’s choice of timing is very important.

Liver transplantation takes place among donors who have a match in blood groups. Although liver transplantation can be performed even among people who do not match in blood groups to save lives in very urgent conditions, this option can be considered a last resort due to the large size of the operation.

Today all patients with end-stage cirrhosis with an average lifespan of less than one year are admitted as liver transplant candidates.

Therefore, surgical intervention is recommended for liver transplant as soon as possible because half of patients with this condition die within a year of this disease or its complications.

The liver of the body must be healthy. The liver is in the abdominal cavity under the ribs on the right side and performs many vital factory functions in the body:

  • Glucose metabolism: the source of energy and the main sugary
  • Protein: the basic material for building the body
  • Coagulation factors
  • Bile: a liquid stored in the gallbladder that helps absorb oils and vitamins.

The liver stores vitamins and minerals as the largest permanent organ of the body and acts as a filter, removes toxic substances from the blood, metabolizes and removes food toxins that enter the body.

When these basic functions are disrupted, liver dysfunction occurs, which seriously affects the patient’s health and lifestyle. In this case, a liver transplant is required.

Liver transplantation from a living donor (Family-Relatives)

A liver donor is a person who voluntarily donates a liver to a sick person as a liver transplant from a living donor means donating a part or lobe from a relative that is transplanted into liver patients.

Liver lobectomy from a living donor is a form of liver surgery in which living donors who do not have pathologies are selected to remove part of the liver.

In this operation there must be relatives up to the third degree between the patient and the liver lobe donor. During follow-up, the analysis of the donor’s blood results should make it clear that no additional medical condition is required for organ donation.

In the second step, it is checked whether the blood vessels of the liver and bile ducts are sufficient, whether there is enough liver for the recipient and donor and whether the liver is not fatty.

In younger children, the left side of the donor liver should usually be removed, and in adult patients, the right half of the donor liver should be removed.

The main condition of organ transplantation in Turkey

One of the main conditions for organ transplantation in Turkey is that the patient and the donor should be from the same family, where the degree of kinship should be as follows:

Father – Mother – Sons First class
Brother – Grandpa – Grandmother – Grandchild Second class
Aunt – Uncle – Sons of Brothers and Sisters Third class
